It was a defining moment today to finally set foot on this mammoth wind turbine.
Vestas V164 was the largest wind turbine when it was installed, with a tip height of 191 m above sea level, which is almost half the height of the Petronas Twin Towers, which is 452 m.

It was a long, winding road before anyone could set foot on any of these wind turbines. The wind industry is heavily guarded with meticulous safety rules, which requires all the workers to be trained and certified by the Global Wind Organisation. The minimum requirement is to pass the Basic Safety Training, which consists of five modules, including a sea survival module. In addition, one also needs to pass the medical test, which includes the Chester Step Test.
Being on the roof of the turbine at a height of 110 m above sea level and watching over the North Sea was surely a humbling experience. TNB, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Vantage RE Limited, has surely made its mark co-owning this unique and high-performing asset.
